Community Relations

The foundation of Midland Information Resources focuses on balancing the needs of our employees, customers, suppliers, community, and share holders. We focus our community relations on giving back to organizations and programs that support and enhance the communities our employees live and work in. Strong, stable communities enhance the success of our employees, local customers and vendors, and our own company.

Midland supports or aids charitable programs, institutions and activities through a number of different approaches…

The company provides monetary support to qualifying programs, as determined by the Contributions Committee.

Employees on all levels sit on investment panels and organizational committees, are board members on local non-profit organizations, and in some instances hold chairmanships or program director positions.

Employees give generously of their time by volunteering both on-site and off-site during and outside normal work hours.

Midland has also been involved in pilot and start-up programs supporting youth in our communities.

In recognition of his extensive community involvement, Midland’s owner was asked to be a 1996 Olympic torch runner as it passed through Iowa.

Environmental Concerns

Midland has been an active environmental corporate citizen, reducing waste and utilizing technology for improved processes whenever possible. As a print facility, we have had paper recycling and other programs in place for many years. Waste reduction and recycling are promoted in all areas of the Company. Examples include recycling bins in the cafeteria, paper recycling totes throughout the office area, utilizing technology and limiting document printing where possible, and a “Going Green” section in our weekly employee bulletin informing employees of tips and special ways to save energy, money and the environment.

Energy efficiency, supply usage, ergonomics and safety are all considered when purchasing new equipment. We intermittently have reviews conducted by our local energy company to look for improvements.

We have also recently started a Green Initiative company project. The initial focus will be on becoming certified through one or multiple forest stewardship programs such as SFI or FSC. Subsequent phases will look at internal processes for additional ways to reduce waste.
